Almost There

After the pain of having to reinstall my operating system, every application and put back all data onto my computer, I am almost finished. For those following this blog, you will know that the v1.13 patch caused the initial problem, but, unfortunately, I learned of the solution after I had taken the decision to reinstall everything to resolve the problem instead.

I have not had the chance to do much in between the installs except some web surfing and visit the odd blog. Consequently, I have nothing more to report on my campaign build. I still have about ten small applications left to install, mostly to do with NWN tools, but after that I should be back in the position to start looking at the cutscene or Life Essence drop code as I planned a few days ago. Hopefully, this is the last I will write of this and the next post will be more interesting to read.

Yes, both SuckyROM and restoring a Windows system is a pain. I recommend using a DiskCloning tool to make an image of the system. When I install a new PC I do an image of it just after all the software I want is installed and the patches are done. It has a price of course, I paid about 50€ for a tool called TrueImage from http://eu.acronis.com/

And I'm satisfied with it. I know there are some OpenSource tools out there too but haven't tested them. I have saved lots of work/time by easily restoring a crashed disk or bugged OS.

BTW, I don't dare to upgrade to 1.13 :)

Hi Amraphael,

It is that. ;)

Yes, I had considered acquiring a disk cloning tool, and may still look again now that I have had this happen to me.

Being in the computer repair business, I ought to have known better.

Lance.

Glad to hear that your PC is on the road to recovery. Like Amraphael, I'm still at version 1.12. The SecuROM fiasco isn't making me look forward to immediate patches of NWN2. :(

Thanks Frank,

I get the impression that Bioware have fixed the v1.13 patch now, from what I read in the forums and seen with my own computer since patching again.

However, I also now have the fix downloaded if it should happen again.

I ceryainly will wait a few days with regards to patches in future.

Lance.
